Splash Ragnarrok!
The official Linux mascot is an overweight penguin called Tux. The name stems from the black and white tuxedo colouring of some penguins. There was an unconfirmed story that Linus Torwalds, the creator of Linux, saw one in a zoo and decided to adopt the penguin as the mascot for his rather popular operating system.
A nice safe Linux type, or distro as they are called, is Puppy. On the web at puppylinux.com or google "puppy linux". Around 100mb in size including the software you need to do almost everything.
Larger puppies can include Open Office ie Puppy Tmmxine (at around 300mb) and others specialize in astronomy (ie Puppy Clear Skies) and another does biology related stuff including genetics (ie BIO Puppy).
Another good all rounder one is called Knoppix.
Many Linux distros run 'Live" these days ie straight from the cd/dvd and require no installation. Puppy and Knoppix will leave your existing pc as it was when you run them(unless you decide differently, which would take deliberate effort.)
Must dash!
